Broforce
Free Lives · Devolver Digital
Broforce is an action-packed side-scrolling run ‘n’ gun ode to freedom, putting you in control of an under-funded, overpowered paramilitary organization dealing exclusively in excessive force.

- Versus Mode: A December 21, 2023 fix restored proper functionality to the competitive mode.
- Mega Satan: The update fixed cases where the boss failed to die.

The January 21, 2019 update delivered Broforce’s biggest practical upgrade: a broad performance overhaul. It cut the installation size from 1.45 GB to 500 MB, improved level loading, and added a pause-menu options screen with controller-rumble and dedicated dash controls, though the tracked changes contained no new campaign, character, or mode.
- Performance overhaul: Major optimisations across levels and characters reduced the installation size to 500 MB and improved loading times.
- Co-op and gameplay reliability: The January 21 update fixed online issues involving camera shifts, respawn positions, helicopter control, Chain Links synchronisation, cutscene pauses, enemy spawning, and incorrect Bro spawns in Covert Operation missions. It also corrected Broden’s interactions with the Deathfield and Sky Fortress, Boondock Bros duplication in Ironbro, zipline traversal, boss AI logic, and Hell-area music playback.
- Options and custom content: The in-game options menu, controller-rumble toggle, dedicated keyboard dash input, controller pause support, and five-level arcade cycling improved access and control. Custom Campaigns hosting and multiplayer Ironbro creation were removed as unsupported, while the January 21 update also restored uploads for short custom levels and fixed several Custom Campaigns menu issues.
Year 3
Oct 15, 2017 - Oct 15, 2018
Covert Ops integration was the biggest gameplay change, as Covert Ops missions became part of Broforce’s Campaign level count. The May 2018 update also added full localization in seven languages and delivered major multiplayer and performance improvements, including reduced network lag and faster level loading.
- Campaign and Covert Ops: Covert Ops counted toward the Campaign total, while Snake Broskin was removed from early Covert Operations so its unlock occurred at the correct point. Bruiser and GR-666 cutscenes also triggered reliably.
- Multiplayer and modes: Network synchronization improved across levels and end-game sequences, idle players were correctly dropped after 35 seconds, and Race mode stopped incorrectly launching Deathmatch. Versus negative scores and Custom Campaign leaderboards also displayed correctly.
- Localization and menus: Broforce gained French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, and Korean localization, excluding the Map Editor. Multiplayer menus added clearer information overlays, Steam presence text, a “Press Fire to Join Game” prompt, colored player HUD borders, improved kick-player messaging, and controller navigation changes.
