Shovel Knight Character DLC brought Shovel Knight to Crypt of the NecroDancer with unique abilities and gameplay mechanics. It also added 15 tracks from the Shovel Knight soundtrack, while the Supporter Upgrade DLC introduced five Rift-themed skins and additional features.

  • Shovel Knight content: The crossover added Shovel Knight, new interactions around Shovel Drop, and soundtrack content; Lead Boots and the Courage Shovel protected him from Wall Spikes during Shovel Drop.

  • Gameplay and reliability: Automatic Spike Traps behaved more consistently in multiplayer. Named fixes addressed Melody’s final boss skipping its last phase, Ring of Piercing failing against Blademasters, the Mods menu freezing with many subscriptions, long-login mod downloads, and Shovel Knight’s inability to damage Phantoms as the last player.

Wyrm Weekly Challenge added a new way to play Crypt of the NecroDancer, letting players control a Wyrm, eat monsters, and grow longer while slithering through the Crypt. SYNCHRONY DLC fully released on March 13, adding three new characters, cross-platform multiplayer, a Weekly Challenge mode, cross-platform leaderboards, and extensive mod support. Hatsune Miku arrived as a separate character DLC on April 4 with unique movement and abilities, plus 15 new soundtrack tracks.

  • SYNCHRONY DLC: The expansion added cross-platform online multiplayer, password-protected lobbies, replay management, and cross-play that let players without AMPLIFIED join compatible hosted sessions. A new graphics system also improved performance across platforms.
  • Hatsune Miku: Miku moved in all eight directions, danced through enemies, and used the new SING ability. Her release added 15 songs, including two tracks by Danny Baranowsky, and later included compatibility support for older online multiplayer lobbies.

Trident attacks gained consistent three-lane damage, and Double Tempo allowed held directional movement for Bolt and Coda.
  • Modding and platform support: SYNCHRONY introduced extensive mod support and an overhauled mod-management system, with new tools including inventory.findMatchingItemStack(), statusEffect.isActive(), and knockback-suppression controls. NecroDancer SYNCHRONY launched on August 4, 2022, bringing online multiplayer for up to eight players, three new characters, full mod support, new items, enemies, and versus modes. Follow-up updates expanded that foundation with cross-platform Steam-GOG multiplayer, six new co-op enemies, and the Crypt of the NecroDancer Pinball Table.

  • Online multiplayer: SYNCHRONY added eight-player co-op and versus play, while Experimental Cross-Platform Online Multiplayer later let Steam and GOG players join the same lobbies. Character Lock, Low Percent, and Friendly Fire also expanded multiplayer run modifiers.

  • Post-launch multiplayer content: The February update added Jockey, Phantom, Granite Golem, Wisp, Skittish Blademaster, and Protectorc as co-op enemies. Raveyard introduced a new multi-layered versus arena, while Vanish and Projection added new spells; the Ping Tool improved multiplayer coordination.

Crypt of the NecroDancer: AMPLIFIED launched fully on Steam on July 12, 2017, leaving Early Access with new characters, modes, Zone 5 content, and final-boss encounters. The game then added Danganronpa and Spike Chunsoft crossover content alongside Chipzel’s “Chipped of the NecroDancer” soundtrack.

  • AMPLIFIED additions:
    • Mary and Tempo became playable characters.
    • Phasing Mode, Randomizer Mode, and Mystery Mode added new ways to play.
    • Frankensteinway and a second final boss joined the endgame.
    • Pulse, Ring of Uncertainty, new Zone 5 music from Virt, and Fortissimole expanded the DLC’s item and audio lineup.
