Mortal Shell II launched worldwide on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox on August 20, after nearly four years of development. Its first post-launch updates added new progression items, an experimental difficulty system, and substantial changes to the resource economy and combat.

  • New items and progression: Four additions expanded how players recovered, explored, and rebuilt their characters:
    • Egon’s Stone revived players at a dungeon entrance at the cost of durability, while preventing Gloom loss.
    • New Glimpse Stone wore down through enemy defeats before breaking into Glimpses.
    • Fragile Tarstones broke after losing durability and yielded a Tarcore.
    • Mether’s Severance let players sever a Shell bond and reset it.
  • Difficulty and exploration: Adaptive Difficulty (Experimental) adjusted enemy strength based on player performance. New Beacons improved exploration pacing, and smaller Beacons gained distinct icons in Mether’s Breath fast travel.
  • Economy and combat: Glimpses and Tarcores became infinite resources, allowing players to complete upgrades in a single playthrough. Riposte damage scaled with enemy health and gained consistent invulnerability windows, while the Infinite Seal received a wider consecutive-parry window and status effects could affect enemies recovering from a riposte. Sariel’s Thornfall, Obsidian Hammer, and Great Martyr’s Blade all received combat improvements, while Genessa’s Augmentation no longer enabled infinite Resolve or Faithful Doubles.
  • Encounter and launch support: Most bosses received a polish pass, and fixes addressed softlocks, save-file issues, enemy tracking, and hit detection. Lost Child collision problems, Harpy attack connections, and Grisha Summons behavior also received targeted adjustments, while Black Market ambience and Ruk’s dialogue were corrected.
