The MODERN aiming mode gave Resident Evil 4’s PC version an alternative to CLASSIC mouse controls, with retuned sensitivity and more consistent aiming. 60fps presentation also gained specular highlights, bump mapping, positional sound, and a fourth COLOR FILTER option, while Mercenaries Mode and Separate Ways received targeted gameplay corrections.
- Mouse and controller controls: AIMING MODE added CLASSIC and MODERN settings, replacing the mouse-acceleration toggle; X+C QTE keys became editable in usr_input.ini, and controller vibration was added for the TMP, Chicago Typewriter, and Matilda.
- Visual and audio upgrades: 60fps mode gained specular highlights, bump mapping, improved water and destruction timing, and restored bloom effects for the Merchant’s torch, oil lamps, and torches. Stereo/positional sound was added, and the fourth COLOR FILTER reduced the game’s warm tint.
- Mercenaries Mode and Separate Ways: Mercenaries Mode’s Water level no longer suffered flickering black screens, while its Castle level restored enemy spawns and Krauser’s bow functionality. Separate Ways no longer froze after QTEs, and its battleship-sinking sequence received corrected timing.
- Gameplay tuning: The PRO mine-cart QTE became less difficult, the X+A QTE no longer required simultaneous button presses, and mouse controls received fixes for aim cancellation, grip-breaking QTEs, quick turns, ready-knife delays, and Del Lago sequences.
- PC customization: config.ini gained saved anisotropy settings from 0 to 16 and editable RGB values for the laser sight, while several 60fps issues—including Salazar’s statue-room water, the Del Lago wake, lightning timing, and weak shooting vibrations—were corrected.
