Unity 6 LTS engine upgrade was Tabletop Simulator’s biggest technical shift, modernizing its runtime, rendering, and platform support. A ground-up UI/UX overhaul built on Unity’s UI Toolkit arrived alongside the Creator Marketplace, a full VR rework using OpenXR, and native Apple Silicon support.

  • Unity 6 LTS foundation: The engine upgrade moved the game to Unity 6 LTS, IL2CPP, and the Universal Render Pipeline while preserving legacy Workshop content. Native Apple Silicon support used Metal by default, Vulkan became an experimental graphics option, and Steam Deck compatibility improved; 32-bit builds were dropped through updated minimum requirements.
  • UI Toolkit overhaul: The rebuilt Play Mode and Edit Mode interfaces made Tabletop Simulator more approachable, while the Search system received a security-focused overhaul. Music playlists gained search, import, export, and clearing tools, and on-screen notes became resizable with font and justification settings.
    • Creator Marketplace: A curated marketplace expanded access to user-created Tabletop Simulator content.
    • Lua Tools: New drafting, hand-selection, and state-change functions expanded scripting and creator workflows.
  • Major Network Stack Rewrite: Multiplayer reliability and security improved through Steam P2P networking, stronger cross-platform IDs, and stricter traffic controls.
    • RPC & Sync Validation: Invalid or malicious Remote Procedure Calls and Syncs were blocked.
    • Traffic Limiting: Network calls were restricted to approved destinations, while exploit protections addressed malicious-packet crashes and invalid packet routing.
    • Searchable Bags: Bags became searchable like decks, with fixes for legacy GUID collisions and Hotseat search and draw issues.
  • OpenXR VR rework: VR interactions and interfaces were rebuilt for smoother use, while the Unity Input System brought more consistent mouse, keyboard, and controller controls. Camera movement also became snappier, and voice chat received Bluetooth-headset improvements.

Widget's Workshop DLC was the biggest addition to Tabletop Simulator, introducing a drop-style, spatial set-collection, card-crafting board game. Tiny Epic Dinosaurs and Bristol 1350 also expanded the DLC lineup with dinosaur ranching and a Black Death-era escape race.

Down In Flames: Locked-On brought missile combat, range mechanics, and multiple campaigns spanning the 1970s through the modern day. The official lineup also added Rise Of Tribes, Adventure Mart, and One Night Ultimate Werewolf, with the latter including the Daybreak expansion.

Dawn of the Zeds arrived as a new DLC game, bringing a zombie epidemic scenario set in Farmingdale to Tabletop Simulator. Wingspan, Dungeon Drop, and Unearth also expanded the platform’s library with new board-game content and, in Wingspan’s case, the European Expansion.

Tortuga 1667 launched on March 1, 2019, giving Tabletop Simulator a new $6.99 DLC package with scripted setup. Unity 2019.1 replaced the 5.6.6 engine in a major technical upgrade, while Fog of War added stronger hidden-information tools for custom games.

The Viticulture: Tuscany & Moor Visitors free update added two major expansions to Tabletop Simulator’s library. The Networking Overhaul moved multiplayer networking to Steam and addressed host desync, while Cosmic Encounter received a free expansion bundle, upgraded visuals, and a custom animated environment.

  • Brand New Voice Chat System: Replaced the voice-chat technology with the Opus codec for better sound quality and performance, added microphone-management commands, and fixed Steam authentication and team voice-chat icon issues.
  • Unity 5.6.4 and Chromium: Updated the engine to Unity 5.6.4, restored VR and Touch functionality, doubled the packet-size limit for larger searches and saves, and upgraded the in-game tablet’s Chromium browser.
  • Tabletop Simulator scripting: Added onPlayerConnect(Player) and onPlayerDisconnect(Player) events, the host_max_players command for raising the player cap beyond 10, and host_name and host_password commands for server management.

In the Name of Odin DLC shipped in April 2017, adding a 2–5-player strategy game about competing to become the next Jarl. Scuttle! and Darkrock Ventures also expanded Tabletop Simulator’s official board-game library with pirate-card and deep-space-mining games.

  • Official DLC:

    • In the Name of Odin added a Viking-themed strategy game for 2–5 players.
    • Scuttle! added Jelly Bean Games’ pirate-themed card game.
    • Darkrock Ventures added Magic Meeple Games’ worker-placement game about asteroid mining, including a solo variant.
  • Creation tools: Decals let players place customizable images on any object, while the overhauled Gizmo Tools added improved scaling and transformation controls. The upgraded Color Picker also supported RGB, hex-code, and HBS input.

  • Tabletop mechanics: Hidden Zones gained more precise sizing and placement through the Gizmo Tools’ new Transform menu, and loaded decks automatically shuffled. Pickup Assist also gained more forgiving mouse-proximity detection.

  • Interface and scripting: The Components menu replaced the old Chest menu with larger buttons and improved drag-and-drop behavior, while getStateId() and onObjectLeaveContainer expanded scripting support. The new None table option allowed custom tables, and the tablet crash issue received a fix.
