Thunder Tier One Free Access Launch moved the tactical shooter from paid sales to a free-to-play model on May 12, 2025. The shift also gave previous purchasers a Steam Support refund route, while the game’s Terms of Service had been revised beforehand to permit the model change.

Thunder Tier One’s multiplayer server shutdown ended its official online service, with the shutdown recorded on October 17, 2023, and dedicated multiplayer servers closing on November 14. Custom Game Hosting remained available, allowing players to continue multiplayer through custom games or self-hosted dedicated servers.

Modding Tool arrived on February 23, 2022, letting players create maps, missions, weapons, and more for Thunder Tier One. The August update added AUG A1, AK-47, M1 Garand, DP-28, M3A1 Grease Gun, and SPAS-12, along with new attachments, gear, and customization options.
- Modding Tool: The toolkit expanded with a camera manager, runtime controls for perception ranges and movement speeds, broader mod functionality, and improved menu compatibility. Mod hosting options, XP rewards with mods enabled, and a redesigned Mod Management UI with search, sorting, and enable/disable controls also arrived.
- AUG A1 arsenal: The new weapons were joined by the PU Scope and M84 Scope, two goggles sets, Tactical Nomex Flight Gloves, a headband, field cap, slouch hat, Altyn helmet, unit and flag patches, camos, and additional colors.
- Black Knuckle and Blue Typhoon: Black Knuckle received improved AI rooftop navigation, a fix for enemies attempting to move through walls, and a repositioned Point C in AAS. Blue Typhoon received a layout update for AAS and Exfil, while the P90’s AP ammunition dealt proper damage to armored targets.
- Lone Wolf and Deathmatch: Lone Wolf missions allowed AI squadmates beyond the loadout limit. Deathmatch required only two players, and Deathmatch and AAS reduced the default respawn time to five seconds; AAS also disabled spawn protection during sudden death.
- Golden Angel and Cold Stone: Golden Angel received fixes for Nichols dying during boat extraction and enemies failing to engage during the crash-site defense. Cold Stone received AI tunnel-navigation and high-enemy-count crash fixes, while campaign saves no longer became unusable after dying before the final checkpoint.
